The spring issue: Read On in March

By Franziska Lange

Each year on March 17, Ireland is even greener than normally: not only does the gorgeous landscape flaunt its various shades of green, but the people and even some buildings also dress in the colour when the ‘Emerald Isle’ celebrates its national saint. St Patrick, who supposedly died on March 17 sometime in the 5th century, is thought to have brought Christianity to Ireland by explaining holy trinity with the help of a shamrock. It’s only natural, then, that shamrocks and the colour green pop up everywhere, be it parades, clothes or cheeks – and landmarks all around the world.
