What happens if the Supreme Court upholds ending DACA?
DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is a program established by the Obama administration. It allows immigrants, who were brought into the country illegally as children, to stay in the United States.
The US economy has profited from DACA in two ways. Immigrants tend to be more entrepreneurial than American citizens and start businesses that often create jobs for other people, too. Legal immigrants can work in official jobs, which means that they contribute not only to the workforce but also to the economy by paying taxes.
The Cato Institute believes in the positive effects of DACA. However, they also believe that it should be the President’s decision whether or not DACA will be continued or phased out. Ultimately, they say Congress should find a solution for the problem of undocumented immigrants. In the current discussion, the Cato Institute has sided with the Trump administration regarding whether or not Trump has the right to end DACA.
