Just like workers in other essential jobs, beekeepers risked contracting Covid-19 so that consumers could continue to lead normal lives.

By John Bilstein

1 Thousands of fruit pickers and other seasonal farm workers were unable to travel to the UK this year due to the coronavirus crisis. However, that did not stop honeybees from doing what they do best: pollinating fruit trees and other important crops.

2 Most people can live without honey, but what about apples, cucumbers or tomatoes? Bees pollinate about one third of all our food crops. Without commercial beekeepers and their beehives, many fruit and vegetable farmers would be out of business. However, the coronavirus crisis made this task more challenging.
